Goodstuff Work: L.A. County Environmental Education Campaign

Goodstuff just launched creative for the brand new “Streets to the Sea Challenge,” a cool new initiative from Generation Earth,  L.A. County’s teen environmental education program.

The initiative leverages the marketing and media savvy of today’s teens, to put them in charge of educating their peers about litter and stormwater pollution issues in Los Angeles County.

Students are encouraged to develop a social marketing campaign in their school focusing on specific school issues, using events, print materials, web and what have you to get the word out. A jury of teachers and marketing professionals will choose the best campaigns, and the winners will get awesome recognition and a free field trip.

Goodstuff created the name and graphic vibe for the initiative, designed mailers, posters and flyers, and updated the GenerationEarth website to highlight the new program.

The Greenest Thing About the 2011 Superbowl XLV

The greenest thing about Superbowl XLV, besides the field, will not be the ads. In Business Insider’s pre-game round up of the best ads for the game, only the Chevy Cruze  “misunderstanding” ad has any environmental message whatsoever. But, while the key message is that the Chevy Cruze Eco boasts 42 mpg mileage,  the concept is floated through some well-trodden senior-bashing comedy shtick. Oh, good for them, I guess!

The better news is that the Dallas stadium where the game will be held raises the bar for ecologically-sensitive sporting arenas–to the degree that it is possible for a new development, or a gathering of tens of thousands of people, to be eco-sensitive. Seems that the development of the new arena was tied in to habitat and watershed  restoration that had been needed for years. I hope it’s true, and I hope that the wildlife has a great tailgate party!

Goodstuff Work: Bound for Glory Textiles Website

Happy New year! Goodstuff is turning it up to ‘11 with our first site launch of the year. BoundforGloryTextiles.com is the online headquarters of Maine-based fiber artist Kelley Smith Barham. As a card-carrying member of the Eco Fashion movement, Kelley creates cloth that is healthy for the planet, promotes local economies, and is fun to wear!

Our focus with the site was to let the visuals tell the story, so we went widescreen and did photo shoots in cool Maine locations: a giant, 150-yr-old barn, and a sunset by the sea. We wanted to get visitors up close with this amazing work in some authentic locations. With website design for Maine businesses, it’s a good idea to show the beauty of Maine. Enjoy!
